For our system testing, we use a multitude of separate benchmarks. For our CPU tests, these include Cinebench 2024 and Geekbench 6.3.0. All results are indexes in this case. SSD manufacturers don’t always support more advanced features such as Momentum Cache on Linux. The best way to view your overall SSD health is to install the package Smartmontools by opening Terminal and running: sudo apt install smartmontools You can then run the check using ‘smartctl’. For example: sudo smartctl -a /dev/nvme0n1 If you don’t enjoy using the command line, you can also install GSmartControl via Terminal, which serves as a graphical front end to Smartmontools. Upon launch, you can select your SSD, then enable SMART as well as ‘Auto Offline Data Collection’ before running more checks. Microsoft’s own BitLocker software ostensibly offers secure system encryption. This means if your device falls into the wrong hands, an attacker won’t be able to recover your data without the correct key. BitLocker ostensibly uses the open source AES encryption algorithm, but as the program is proprietary, the code can’t be publicly verified to be sure AES is implemented correctly. Microsoft also claims it’s turned down repeated requests from law enforcement to code a back door into devices. If you don’t want to take this on trust, consider encrypting your system using Veracrypt (www.veracrypt.fr). This program is not only open source but offers a variety of encryption methods. TWO ISSUES AGO, we took a look at the H7 Flow in all its ATX glory, complete with support for multiple radiators, extensive fan support, a pristine perforated aesthetic, and exceptional quality-of-life improvements for us system builders.
