Apple’s refusal to create a backdoor for law enforcement may be an issue in the US, but not in the UK.
Starting in January, Scottish police have begun using ‘cyber kiosks’ that can extract the contents of any smartphone, including iPhones. Using the kiosks, the Police can view, but not store, contacts, messages, media, application files and much more. 41 kiosks have been procured, and all are expected to be operational by May 2020.
In the US, the FBI is currently engaging in a public showdown with Apple over access to locked iPhones.
