Most people who need a professional audio recording solution are aware of Ardour, and are probably already using it, or one of its derivatives. Ardour stands out for its power and features, but part of that is a by-product of lead developer, Paul Davis, having been able to work on it full time for several years, with numerous contributions from other users and developers. Davis is able to do this as many users, from professionals and hobbyists, contribute a monthly subscription to the project.
