Amazon has launched its cheapest ever 4K Fire TV stick, priced £49.99. This is cheaper than the launch price of the 2023 model, which cost £59.99.
Called ‘Fire TV Stick 4K Select’ (pictured), it has only 1GB RAM, half what’s in the 2023 model.
But Amazon claims this won’t make it slower because it runs on the company’s new operating system, Vega OS. It says this is “highly responsive” and allows “fast app launches and smooth navigation” (www.snipca.com/56590).
Vega OS is based on Linux and replaces the Android-based Fire OS. It has been built to work with all Amazon’s devices – from streaming sticks to smart speakers and TVs.
However, the Select also compares poorly with its predecessor in Wi-Fi power.
