1 THE SUPERBANK
Nobody thought when the Tweed River bypass sand-pumping scheme commenced in 2001 that it would end up manufacturing one of the best waves on the planet. In fact, thousands of surfers protested against the project. When the dust (or in this case, several million cubic tonnes of sand) settled, it effectively joined the points of Greenmount, Snapper, Little Marley and Kirra to create a two kilometre long barrel. The only thing more unbelievable than a good cyclone swell lighting up the Superbank is the accompanying crowd.
