WHEN TO GO
April - August with the winter months being the pick. Favourable conditions and swells are more frequent in winter, and it’s also the dry season. During summer, heavy rainfalls cause the rivers to flood, leaving the lineups muddy brown and ruining the banks.
WHAT TO RIDE
Your standard shortboard will serve you well in most conditions, but it’s a good idea to bring along a step-up too. They don’t call it the ‘Wild Coast’ for no reason, and the swell can get serious from time-to-time. In that case, pack what you’d ride at cranking Supers.
