One day I was sitting in my art studio and staring at the piles of papers overflowing from my workspace. Not just any paper: beautiful little pieces of vintage and found papers I was saving for something special. As I looked at this pile I could remember where each paper was found, each with their own little story. In the back of my mind I kept hearing a question of “What if …?” “What if I tear these papers and sew them back together?” “What if I dip them into water? I recently had to downsize from a large studio space to a small work area in the corner of my bedroom. I had to decide what to keep and what to repurpose or give away. I came across many old journals filled with to-do lists, random thoughts, and a few favorite quotes. Many years ago after reading “The Artist’s Way” (TarcherPerigee, 2002) by Julia Cameron, I began to write morning pages as a way to clear my head and to get the creative juices flowing. Not many of them were worth saving. Until I created these two journals, I had never mixed my writing with my art. I kept copies of old mixed-media pieces I had sold or gifted for my own records.
