A PROFESSIONAL SINCE 1978, David Corio has photographed musicians for NME, The Face, Black Echoes, Greensleeves Records and others. Now, re-imagined 25 years on from its original US-only printing, his book The Black Chord collects more than 200 portraits of global stars of soul, reggae, rap and beyond.
These include Bob Marley, Nina Simone, Curtis Mayfield, Tina Turner, Bobby Womack, Dennis Brown, Millie Jackson, Ornette Coleman, Lee Perry, Miriam Makeba, Fela Kuti, Augustus Pablo and De La Soul. Illuminating texts by Vivien Goldman – dubbed Roots & Culture, Heart & Soul, Revolution and Explorers – accompanies each thematic chapter, and new images have been added, including Cuban Santeria drummers in the midst of rhythm.
