Confession: I have a really hard time making small quilts, even baby quilts. I’m a Go-King-or-Go-Home kind of girl. That is, until recently.
I have become a convert to the joy of small piecing.
Small piecing is a relative term but, generally, it refers to pieces finishing at 1"–3", sometimes even tinier.
Small piecing isn’t new in the quilting world. You can go back a week, a decade, or 100 years and find quilts that are intricate, detailed, and filled with thousands and thousands of pieces. The International Quilt Study Center in Lincoln, Nebraska, has numerous examples of quilts that are more than 100 years old made with small hexagons, strips, triangles, and more. They are detailed, intricate, and beautiful.
