Search records of mining accidents
If your ancestor was described in census records as a miner, it’s most likely they worked in a coal mine, although there were many other types of mines such as lead, tin, silver and slate. Working in any of these was a dirty and often dangerous job, and accidents frequently occurred.
Look on Ancestry and Findmypast
There are two main indexes that provide details of people who were injured or died in mining accidents – one free, one requiring a paid-for subscription.
