When I bought my first TV over 30 years ago I think the only question I asked the sales assistant was whether it had Ceefax. If I’d asked about OLED, QLED, HDMI or HDR he’d have thought I was mad, speaking Polish, or complaining about a poor set of Scrabble letters.
You don’t have to worry about Ceefax these days, but otherwise you need much more tech knowledge to be sure you’re buying the kind of TV you want. Screens, resolutions, speakers, panels, ports, dynamic ranges, viewing angles – it can be bewildering, and that’s before you start thinking about what to watch on them.
