What is it?
It’s exactly what you’re afraid it is: a TV set that stands upright like a smartphone. It’s unlike a normal widescreen TV, or a projector screen, or the screen at the cinema, or any other screen ever. Introduced by Samsung as the Sero, it’ll cost £1,250, although so far it’s only available in Seoul. Would it be bad, we wonder, if it stayed there?
What does it do?
Puts your TV the same way round as your phone. Having “analysed the characteristics of the millennial generation”, Samsung designed a screen “optimised for mobile content”, which mostly comes “in the vertical form”. So when you drag your eyes away from your phone for five minutes, you can watch, er, the same thing, on a giant phone.
