After Microsoft’s Surface tablet broke the mould for Windows laptops, the Surface Book (see our review, Issue 471) went back to the mould and wondered if they could maybe work something out. The result was a unique laptop-tablet that, with its stiff caterpillar-track hinge, feels more like a proper laptop when you want it to be, but still comes apart when you only need the touchscreen. This latest version doesn’t change the design, but brings new processors, a multi-purpose USB Type-C port (replacing the DisplayPort monitor connector), and two optional screen sizes (13.5in and 15in).
