Vodafone has launched the UK’s cheapest discounted broadband package for people receiving benefits, following pressure from Ofcom.
In September, the regulator asked Vodafone, along with EE, Plusnet, Shell Energy and TalkTalk, to introduce “social tariffs as soon as possible”.
The company has responded with a £12 monthly service called Essentials Broadband, which has a maximum download speed of 38Mbps. The next cheapest social tariff is Virgin Media’s £12.50 package, but this provides speeds of only 15Mbps.
BT charges £15 and £20 for its social tariffs, offering 36Mbps and 67Mbps respectively. Sky’s costs £20 for 36Mbps (see www.snipca.com/43703 for the full list).
