Windows Notepad is the ideal tool for quickly typing non-formatted text that you can then save or copy and paste to other programs and websites. However, it is fairly basic and lacks many useful features, such as spellchecking, find-and-replace and bookmarking. DocPad is the best free alternative we’ve used because it offers all these features (and more), and each one can be launched with its own keyboard shortcut.
