Scientists have built an app that analyses your voice to detect whether you have Covid-19.
They claim that it’s more accurate than lateral flow tests, giving a correct positive result 89 per cent of the time, and 83 per cent for negative cases.
The app, built by researchers at the University of Maastricht in the Netherlands, can provide a result in one minute. This quick turnaround means it could be used to test people attending large public events, such as concerts and sporting fixtures.
It works by recording respiratory sounds, including coughing and deep breathing through the mouth, before analysing characteristics such as loudness, power and variation to spot changes in the vocal chords caused by the disease.
