I’ve just checked every room in my house and counted 17 ‘smart’ devices that are at risk of being attacked by Wi-Fi hackers. These aren’t computers, phones or tablets, but security cameras, video doorbells, Amazon Echos, TVs, internet radios and even an air fryer. Each one gives hackers a potential route into my home network.
Over the years I’ve been too complacent about these threats, but that will change now I’ve read Nik Rawlinson’s excellent Cover Feature. He reveals just how urgent the risks are, and explains what you must do to protect yourself.
Following his advice, I’ve already changed several passwords, updated my ageing encryption, checked for new firmware and strengthened my router’s firewall.
