Microsoft has confirmed that it will end all support for Microsoft 365 tools in Windows 7 and 8.1 next January.
It stopped supporting Windows 7 in January 2020, but allowed companies and individuals to pay for Extended Security Updates, which guaranteed that the office suite would receive security fixes.
This service will end on 10 January, 2023 – the same day that Microsoft ends support for the whole of Windows 8.1. You’ll still be able to use Microsoft apps on 8.1, but not install any new ones.
Microsoft 365, formerly called Office 365, is a subscription service costing from £5.99 a month, or £59.99 a year. It contains all the usual Office tools, including Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word.
